El sello One Handed Music acaba de poner en marcha, a través de su blog, la serie de mixes “OHM Dedication”. En ella, artistas afines a la plataforma homenajearan a sus músicos favoritos en forma de sesión. Los encargados de firmar la primera entrega son los siempre enormes Beautiful Swimmers, quienes para la ocasión rinden tributo al mítico trompetista de jazz Don Cherry. Conocido por tocar la corneta y la trompeta con maestros como John Coltrane o Ornette Coleman, Cherry fue siempre un espíritu libre, que incorporó influencias de la vanguardia electrónica y las músicas del mundo a su panorámica visión del jazz. Esta increíble selección es un excelente testimonio de ello.
Nuestros amigos de Future Times vuelven a la carga con el segundo volumen de sus recopilaciones “Vibe”. Si hace dos años el primer volumen llegó en un solo 12” y contenía 4 canciones esta vez la cosa se transforma en un vinilo doble que se va hasta los 9 cortes. Todos brutales. Y no es una manera de hablar. Para la ocasión, Max D y compañía han invitado una nutrida representación de otro de nuestros sellos americanos actuales favoritos; L.I.E.S. (al que le dedicamos un pequeño especial hace unos meses). Tampoco se olvidan de sus compinches europeos y tanto Hunee como Juju & Jordash (dos proyectos a los que desde aquí también tenemos un gran aprecio) aportan un track cada uno. En total, 50 minutos de house, disco, boogie, aires cósmicos y todo lo bueno que te puedas imaginar. Haceros con él y tendréis sudor y emoción garantizados para rato.

A estas alturas no descubriremos a nadie que en Hivern somos más que fans de Beautiful Swimmers. Nos gusta tanto su música como su manera de hacer las cosas así que no podemos más que alegranos de la repercusión que están obteniendo en los últimos tiempos. Mientras se preparan para iniciar una gira europea de verano que, lamentablemente, no les traerá a nuestra ciudad (toc, toc, promotores, ¿hay alguien ahí?) acaban de editar la última referencia de Future Times. Más sedosos que nunca, Max D y Ari G entregan un corte de funk canicular y über-sexy que cuenta con las vocales de John Davis y que se rebela perfecto para disfrutar mientras se degusta una horchata y se admiran bronceados. El remix de Soft Rocks, en tono más dubby, también parte bastante la pana. Llega en un 7” y únicamente en vinilo, claro que si.
When Delorean toured with Teengirl Fantasy last spring they told us about a song that had really blown them away. When they shared it with us we understood why. It was called “Cheaters” and sounded like an instant classic. Very different to the trademark psychedelic jams of the duo, the song was homage to classic Chicago House from a modern perspective. Builded around layers of blissful synths and borrowing the vocals of First Committee's “Cheaters Never Win”, it had that kind of energy that we sometimes miss in contemporary dance music.
Later that summer, John Talabot visited New York and became aware that the track was going to be released by True Panther Sounds only as part of the album “7AM”. Something sparked inside us. We felt it was not fair that such an incredible track had to share it's vinyl's grooves with other songs so we thought it would be nice to dedicate a full maxi side to it. After all, the song's roots are found in dance music. Isn't it? So we immediately talked to True Panther to explain them our idea and they quickly agreed that we released it as a 12” single.
Now, some months later, the track has gained an incredible reception both between the public and the press, even being named “song of the year” by FACT Magazine. Maybe it was because it's just a free and honest approach to it, with a DIY spirit that keeps it miles away from the thousands of technical-obsessed soulless tracks that we suffer day after day...or maybe it's simply a glorious song. In any case, it's been proven “Cheaters” is a special song, it's finally time to give it a special release. It's gonna come in a limited edition 12” vinyl, with remixes by Beautiful Swimmers and John Talabot to whom we already thank for accepting he arduous task of remixing a perfect track. We would also like to thank Dean and everyone at True Panther for giving us the chance of releasing such an amazing song. We are incredibly excited and proud about it. We just hope you share the feeling.
