Holden is back!!!

VUELVE HOLDEN

HOLDEN IS BACK

James Holden comes back to The Loft tonight and this makes us happy, but what makes us even happier is that he’s been making some new music. Two years without music from him (except he’s Four Tet remix) was too much. Now he returns with two great remixes. He’s reconstructions for Mercury Rev (Senses on Fire) and Radiohead (Reckoner) prove (it couldn’t be in any another way) he’s nonconformism and uber-personal way to understand electronic music. In Mercury Rev’s case he maintains the original mood of the track, with layers and layers of synthezisers, but twisting it up with distorsion, delays, phasers and a persistent kick-and-hats rhythm that is pure kraut. It’s just amazing how the track is build up, growing in intensity and emotion at every second. You can hear it here . The Radiohead remix has a 4x4 rhythm which makes it more danceflorr-friendly but with that dark and super emotional sound that only him is able to work out. A simple distorted piano line leads the track. The rhythm is constructed in a quite curious and noisy way, everything very dirty. James himself explains how he’s done it in he’s website and he shows some pictures of he’s peculiar studio, full of strange analogic devices (and felt hamsters) that probably would only make nonsense noises in hands of any other. You can listen to the remix here, you can also download the song’s stems to make your own remix.
