Uno de los programas de radio que más
me han influenciado musicalmente a lo largo de estos últimos años
ha sido The Flying Carpet Radioshow. Dirigido y presentado por
Lorenzo aka Jazee Loudness, antropólogo experto en movimientos
migratorios, y uno de los mayores conocedores de la música facturada
en los Trópicos que hay en Europa, el programa se emite semanalmente
en Radio Ciutat Vella, ofreciéndonos una excursión musical a bordo
de una alfombra que sobrevuela esencialmente África, Sudamérica y
el Caribe. A lo largo de los cuatro años que lleva en antena, The
Flying Carpet ha contado con las apariciones esporádicas de grandes
de la música africana como Seun Kuti o Mulatu Astatke, así como con
auténticos expertos en la materia como Hugo Mendez (Fundador de
Sofrito Records).
Pues bien, en su última edición el
programa contó con un invitado de auténtico lujo; Brian Shimkovitz,
capo del blog de culto, y desde hace un año sello discográfico,
Awesome Tapes From Africa. Shimkovitz se encontraba en la ciudad con
motivo de unas jornadas sobre la prescripción musical organizadas en
el CCCB (en las que pudimos verlo pinchar con esas veneradas cintas
de cassette que busca incansablemente por el continente africano) y
no dudó en aceptar la invitación de Jazee.
En esta edición especial tuvieron
tiempo para hablar de la dura situación que está viviendo el pueblo
de Mali (que podría ser el país con más artistas por metro
cuadrado en el planeta), de los motivos que llevaron a Brian a
comenzar su blog, y sobre todo, para pinchar una selección de sus
cintas. La sesión fue un poco más tranquila que la Brian hizo por
la noche en el CCCB, pero en ella también pudimos escuchar, entre
otros, el "I Feel Alright" de Onupa Nua, uno de los temas
de West African Boogie más atrevidos que se hayan hecho jamás.
